In this clip from “REVOLT Black News Weekly,” we're joined by Tavonia Evans, a seasoned tech expert and the founder of Guapcoin. Launched in 2017, Guapcoin aims to be more than just a cryptocurrency; it strives to create and fortify a community that confronts poverty, technological disparities, and the wealth gap by providing a transparent, decentralized financial system for the Black community. As Tavonia discusses Guapcoin X Chain, an exciting new blockchain initiative, she dives into her journey from being told by her grandfather to dive into computers to becoming a beacon of financial empowerment and technological wisdom in the community. Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler’s regulation-by-enforcement approach, as opposed to developing a much-needed regulatory framework for the crypto sector, may derail decentralized finance, setting up roadblocks for diverse entrepreneurs and impact projects.

Entrepreneur Tavonia Evans, who is the founder of Guapcoin and plans to launch a decentralized exchange, wrote the SEC last month and noted that proposed rules “may inadvertently box out startups that are experienced in addressing lack of access and are working to rectify this issue.”

In the world of blockchain technology, there are many hidden gems that often go unnoticed. One such gem is Guapcoin, a blockchain platform founded by a black woman in 2017. Yes, you read that right. Not just a cryptocurrency, but an entire blockchain ecosystem, Guapcoin has been quietly making waves in the digital world. And now, it’s ready to make a splash with the launch of its sister chain, Guapcoin X.

A cryptocurrency specifically for the black community, like Guapcoin, has the potential to be a powerful tool for closing the wealth gap and supporting economic empowerment and community development.

One of the key challenges faced by the black community is the wealth gap, which has persisted for decades and shows no signs of closing. This gap is the result of systemic racism and discrimination, as well as a lack of access to financial resources and opportunities. A cryptocurrency like Guapcoin could help to address this problem by providing a way for individuals and communities to build wealth and gain financial independence.

  6. Hello and welcome!  Thanks for sharing.  You're so right that focused resources and determined cooperation can propel the community forward with tremendous hope and power.  When everyone works together to build and dream together so that all can benefit, it's amazing what can happen.  Guapcoin helps focus that energy, skill, and community resources.  Any other thoughts about why you are a part of the Guapcoin movement and what you dream can happen through it?

  7. These instructions will help you import an old wallet address to a new desktop wallet by using your private key.

If you've backed up the private key to your wallet address, the basic steps are as follows:

    1. If a desktop wallet isn't already running on your computer, install a new desktop wallet from here: https://guapcoin.org/get-guap/
    2. Once the wallet is fully installed and synced, make sure it is unlocked.
    3. Go to settings > debug > console and type importprivkey followed by your private key in the command line
      1. The command line will look like this: importprivkey 749549423494249422 (This is just a fake private key, but replace it with your true private key copied and pasted if possible so you don't mistype).
    4. Then hit enter and it should import your wallet to the desktop wallet.
    5. Wait for your imported wallet address to sync fully.

    Hi Keith,

    I'm good.  Thanks!

I tried two different guap addresses but no luck. I also deleted the extra space and also type in the address instead of copying and pasting. Both addresses are genuine since I'm currently using them. I thought the same thing maybe that system is not connected to the blockchain...it's been awhile.

Glad to hear you're doing good!  Ok, I learned that you can still withdraw from growyourguap.  Here's what you'll need to do:

    1. Go to the official guapcoin discord here: https://discord.gg/7zybbcp2NW
    2. Send a message to Tavonia (Cryptodeeva) in there with your growyourguap wallet address, how many coins you want to withdraw, and your receiving wallet address.

Let me know if you get stuck.  Otherwise, we'll see you in the Discord. 🙂

Thanks Keith! I remembered account and tried to withdraw but I keep getting an invalid address error. Has the time to withdraw passed?

    Hi Nat,

Hope you're doing well.  Are you still stuck trying to make a withdrawal?  We'll try to help you out.

I'm not certain if the withdrawal period has passed, or if the growyourguap system is even still functionally connected to the blockchain.  Did you make sure that your withdrawal address was a genuine guapcoin wallet address?  Were you copying and pasting the address?  Sometimes the address can get rejected if you paste it with an extra space at the beginning or end.  Have you tried a different guapcoin address you own, or do you only have one to try?

  11. Hello again!

Have you made any progress or received any coins?  From what you're describing there, it seems like you're confusing xGuap and GuapX, including in how you setup your transaction.  You'll want to take it slow and careful, because if you make a mistake on the blockchain (wrong address, wrong network in metamask, etc), the blockchain transaction will just fail and the coins will be lost forever, and no one can get them back.

    Here are some quick notes:

    • xGuap - a wrapped/suitcase version of Guapcoin that works via the Binance Smart Chain.  It basically wraps (temporarily converts) Guapcoin to a coin that can operate on the BSC, a completely separate blockchain from the Guapcoin chain.  This was the project launched about a year ago.  Read more here: https://www.guaptalk.org/topic/281-xguap-basics/
    • GuapX - the token that operates on the GuapcoinX blockchain, which is Guapcoin's Interoperable Layer 2 Blockchain.  It provides Smart Contract ability to the legacy Guapcoin chain and enables decentralized finance opportunities, decentralized applications building, metaverse creation and participation, NFT's, etc.  Read more here: https://guapx.network/

So in your transaction above, if you really wanted xGuap noted in option 1, you should have switched your Metamask wallet to Binance Smart Chain.  See these instructions: https://www.guaptalk.org/topic/254-metamask-desktop-wallet-convert-guapcoin-to-xguap

If you actually wanted GuapX, then you would use the GuapX network in Metamask and use the Bridge website here: https://bridge.guapcoinx.com/

Hope that gets you moving in the right direction.  Feel free to keep me posted about your original transaction and how things go.

Here is a follow up ! I decided to look at the masternode.conf and guapcoin.conf file (on the vps server) and made sure the priv key that was generated from the wallet on the mac is what i was using on both files on the server. After editing the files, rebooting the server, then restarting the wallet (node status was showing missing at that time) and starting the node from the wallet... i then went to the vps and ran the getmasternodestatus and i now get a new message : "Masternode successfully started". !! 🙂

The status in my wallet is still showing active, so i will leave both alone for a day to see if the status changes. So is there anything else for me to do at this point or am i "all set"? Thank again!

Nice work there sleuthing it out and solving the problem.  That would make sense about the priv key issue since they have to match in order for the node to start and sync with the blockchain network.  Here are a few other thoughts

    • Backup Your Wallet - Very Important - here is the link with instructions: https://www.guaptalk.org/topic/85-backing-up-your-desktop-wallet/
    • Now that the VPS says the Masternode is started, it will take a few hours to go to Enabled in your desktop wallet.  That's what you're watching for.  That means it's connected to the blockchain, recognized as a valid node, and in line to start receiving rewards.  It will take about 1-2 days for your first reward to show up, and then they'll come daily.
    • You definitely don't need to install the Guap GUI wallet on the VPS server, and you don't need to send coins to that wallet.  In fact, you need to have your coins in a separate wallet, like you have done on your Mac computer.
    • When you're building the masternode on the VPS server, you can choose to have the install files create a masternode private key, or just use one that you've created.  I've done both.
    • Keep learning, connecting with the community, and looking for ways you can help this movement grow...and check out the beginner's guide if you haven't already: https://www.guaptalk.org/topic/220-beginners-guide-to-guapcoin/

Let us know if you have other questions or thoughts!

  14. Hello there, and welcome!  Glad to have you around.  And congratulations on working to build your own self-installed masternode.  It does take some practice, patience, and perseverance to get the hang of it.  Unfortunately, when you get that error message in the console like you describe, it means something didn't go right with the masternode installation.  If everything went correctly during setup, you'll run the guapcoin-cli getmasternodestatus command in the SSH console a few minutes after starting the node in your wallet and then you'll see a message that contains these words:
“status” : 4, “message” : “Masternode successfully started”

You can try a few times to get the wallet to start it, and even wait 15-30mins, but if you're still getting the error code 1 message, then something isn't set up correctly.  When it's done correctly, you'll see the status 4 confirmation usually within 5-15mins max.

In my experience, your next steps to try are:

    1. Destroy the VPS server and reinstall everything from scratch, but use the same transaction.  You might try Ubuntu 18.04.  I've had better success with that than 20.
    2. If you try step 1 a few times, you could try a new 10,000 transaction to a new wallet address in case the transaction is the issue.  Then repeat step 1.
    3. You could try Pecunia or iHostMN for setting up your masternode.  Read more about them here: Masternode Setup

Hi Abigail, and welcome!  Please list your public guapcoin address that starts with a "G" at the beginning.  Don't list the private wallet key that starts with a "7" since anyone who has that private key could import your wallet address and have control of all the coins and take them away.
